ArcelorMittal halts plans for steelmaking using hydrogen in Germany

For the time being, steel corporation ArcelorMittal will not be converting its blast furnace-based locations Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt to climate-neutral production using hydrogen. Planning uncertainty was making it impossible to continue its DRI-EAF plans, the steelmaker said. This means that the company will not be claiming state funding.

SMS acquires Circored direct reduction technology from Metso

Metso has signed an agreement to sell its Ferrous business to the SMS group. The businesses to be divested include, for example, travelling grate pelletizing and the Circored direct reduction process, as well as the associated service business. Approximately 180 employees, primarily based in Germany, India and China, are planned to join the SMS group at the closing of the transaction.
